In October 1951 – one month before series production of the 300 model began – another top-class model was presented at the Paris Motor Show – the 300 S. This rounded off a production programme which – as before the War – catered to high demands. The new model was positioned as a prestige car with a sporty touch – meeting the highest demands in terms of roadholding and speed. The verdicts of the international motoring press reflected the fact that the 300 S met all of these expectations. The new model was described as a “car for the world elite” and the “yardstick for what is feasible in contemporary automotive engineering.” The press also praised the “traditional and, in this case, particularly noble lines … without resorting to aerodynamic gimmickry”.
