Product Description

Following the successes of the pre-war era, there was no doubting that Daimler Benz would return to formula racing. But it was not until 1954, with the introduction of a new racing formula, that the opportunity arose. Supercharged engines were now limited to 750 cubic centimetres and naturally aspirated engines to 2.5 litres. Daimler Benz opted for a naturally aspirated engine and placed the development of the car in the hands of Rudolf Uhlenhaut. The debut of the new W196 R at the French Grand Prix in Reims was a stunning success, with a 1-2 victory for Fangio and Kling.

Streamline W196 R, silver. Diecast metal. 7.62 cm (3-inch) scale. Accurate reproduction based on original CAD data. Genuine paintwork colours. Hand-assembled toy model made up of over 15 individual parts. Age 3+. By Norev for Mercedes-Benz.
