Product Description

Mercedes-Benz 230 SL "Pagoda", W113, white. Manufacturer: Minichamps. Scale 1:43.
"The Motor Show in Geneva in March 1963 was the setting for a remarkable and noteworthy premiere: Daimler-Benz presented the 230 SL, a new sports car to replace two models in the previous sales range. Its two predecessors, the 190 SL and the 300 SL, had been extremely popular and successful from the outset. The 300 SL in particular had become a legend in its lifetime. However, despite the family likeness, the two embodied fundamentally different vehicle concepts – concepts that were difficult to combine. In 1968, in the wake of the market launch of the new mid-range models, it was not only luxury-class Saloons, Coupés and Cabriolets that were fitted with a 2.8-litre engine – the SL was too. Thanks to a camshaft with modified valve timing, the engine variant used in the 280 SL mobilised 10 hp more than the basic version of the 280 SE. The output was 20 hp higher than that of the 250 SL, with 10% more torque. Apart from the model badge, externally the 280 SL could only be distinguished from the two preceding models by the modified wheel trim.
