The unveiling of the 600 model at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in September 1963 caused a tremendous sensation. Designed as an exclusive prestige vehicle to meet the requirements of the most demanding customers, the new top-of-the-range model was fitted as standard with a unique, state-of-the-art combination of special technical features. For the first time at Daimler-Benz the drive unit was a V8 injection engine which developed 250 hp from a displacement of 6.3 litres and had a maximum torque of 51 mkg. In conjunction with the standard-fitted automatic transmission, this allowed the model to deliver sports car-style performance. Despite weighing almost two and a half tonnes, the 600 model achieved a top speed of over 205 km/h and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 10 seconds.
